What we do

"Driving Women-Led Change for Health, Education, Livelihoods, and Climate Resilience in Vulnerable Communities"

In the heart of Bangladesh’s most climate-vulnerable and underserved areas, DHARA began with a simple belief: when women lead, entire communities can rise. What started as a small, women-led initiative over two decades ago has grown into a lifeline for thousands—offering not just services, but hope, dignity, and the tools to build a better future.

We work where challenges are the greatest—where floods destroy homes, where girls are pulled from school, where families survive on the edge of hunger. In these places, we stand shoulder to shoulder with the people we serve, turning obstacles into opportunities.

From safe motherhood services at our Dr. Farnando Nobra Mother & Children Hospital, to teaching a child their first letters, to helping a farmer plant salt-tolerant rice that survives the next cyclone—our work touches every part of community life.

We are more than an organization; we are a partner in transformation. We empower women and girls to lead, provide healthcare that saves lives, educate those left behind, and build homes that withstand the storms. We ensure clean water flows, livelihoods grow, and climate resilience takes root.

Every well dug, every loan given, every classroom opened is a step toward a future where no one is left behind. And through it all, we hold to our vision: a just, inclusive, and resilient world—shaped by the very people who live in it.

Education Program

Since 2009, DHARA has been running 10 non-formal education schools in some of the most underserved and climate-vulnerable areas of Jashore & Shyamnagar, Satkhira. These schools are designed to reach children who are left out of the formal education system—often due to poverty, climate displacement, or lack of access to nearby schools.Every year, around 300 children (mostly from marginalized and poor families) receive basic education through these schools.

What we care for

Women’s Empowerment-Peace and Inclusion

We believe that when women lead, communities thrive. We stand for equal rights, opportunities, and voices for women in all spheres of life.

We nurture harmony, tolerance, and respect so that no one is left behind because of gender, ethnicity, or social status.

A new future for exploited children

Children and youngsters who are exploited in their early days need a helping hand and support for their mental health. We take them out of this zone to give them a better life.Every child deserves the chance to learn, grow, and dream, no matter their background or circumstances.

Bringing dreams within reach for children

The underprivileged children do not have access to required financial help and resources needed to live the life of their dreams. We help them with everything they’ll need to live their dreams.
