Disability Development & Rehabilitation
From wheelchairs to sewing machines — restoring mobility, dignity, and livelihoods for persons with disabilities and their families.
Implemented in collaboration with the BNF Foundation, with each device and asset matched to the specific needs of the beneficiary.
What we distributed
During fiscal year 2023–2024, 125 beneficiaries received essential assistive devices and income-generating tools to foster independence and social inclusion.
Mobility support
- Wheelchairs — for independent physical movement
- Crutches — for those requiring walking assistance
- White sticks — safe navigation for visually impaired beneficiaries
Sensory support
- Hearing aids — improving communication for individuals with hearing impairments
Livelihood & income generation
- 4 sewing machines — empowering beneficiaries, particularly women, to start home-based tailoring businesses
- 2 rickshaws — a steady daily income through local transport services
- 6 vans — small-scale trade and goods transportation towards self-sufficiency
Supporting children, youth, and their families
The health and well-being of a person with a disability are deeply connected to the financial stability of their family. That is why DHARA creates sustainable Income Generating Activities (IGA) for families of children and youth with disabilities — distributing rickshaws and vans that become a direct source of daily income and break the cycle of poverty and dependence.
The “Health-Wealth” connection
- Fund medical expenses — specialised doctors, therapy, and medicine
- Improve nutrition — a healthy, balanced diet for the child or youth
- Enhance quality of life — less financial strain, better care, a more supportive home
Disability inclusion runs across all of DHARA’s programmes, aligned with the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) — because independence and social inclusion are rights, not charity.
